Temples at Toe Rag
Joy! What a great way to bring in Xmas. One of our fave bands TEMPLES record at our fave studio Toe Rag, and make a film a lot like Look Around You. Enjoy
Having released their second album Volcano in March on Heavenly Recordings, Temples mark the end of a hugely successful year with the release of the Toe Rag Session, an EP featuring new recordings of three tracks from the album and an accompanying short-film, Sound Education, by acclaimed director Paul Kelly.
The EP, featuring ‘Roman Godlike Man’, ‘Strange Or Be Forgotten’ and ‘How Would You Like To Go?’ was recorded with renowned producer Liam Watson at Toe Rag Studios, his analogue studio in Hackney, East London.
The session was filmed by Paul Kelly and the resulting short film, Sound Education, pays homage to schools and Open University films of old.
Both will be available on all DSPs from Wednesday 13th December 2017.
The band’s second album, Volcano, was recorded at the band’s home studio in Kettering and spawned the singles ‘Certainty’, ‘Oh The Saviour’ and ‘Strange Or Be Forgotten’, which between them racked up well over a million plays on Spotify and Soundcloud, bagged A lists on 6Music and #1 spots on Hype Machine.
The year also saw them play packed-out shows and play festival slots across the globe including a sold-out show at the Electric in Brixton, London and appearances at Glastonbury, Benicassim, Lollapalooza and Latitude, over the summer.
Temples released their debut album, Sun Structures, in February 2014. Bagging the prestigious top spot in Rough Trade Shops Albums of the Year list, Sun Structures also charted in 18 countries, including a Top-10 spot in the UK, and became the year’s biggest-selling vinyl album in independent British record shops, with early pressings of first single ‘Shelter Song’ changing hands on Discogs for up to £150.
Less than a month after its release, the group played to a packed Shepherds Bush Empire and would later sell-out the Forum in London, make a number of festival appearances over the summer including Glastonbury, Bonnaroo, Primavera Sound and Lollapalooza and perform on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
