The Lemon Twigs ‘Look For Your Mind’ – a chat with the director

“The video is a combination of found footage, mostly from ’60s anti-drug ads. These PSA’s were aimed largely at teens, and were especially anti-LSD, and parties. There’s some funny and dark imagery of what taking these things could lead to – there’s lots of jail and tripping out footage. The video is composed of three parts: the found footage, band performance, and Josh White’s liquid light show projection footage from the ’60s. We shot the band in Los Angeles the day after their US tour, so it was fitting they were a bit out of it and exhausted. Nevertheless, to shoot a video is always a good time with The Lemon Twigs. Max Flick, my DP, built two massive colour wheels to replicate The Pink Floyd’s ‘Jugband Blues’ promo a bit,  but we pushed the gels to be more candy coloured than RGB. We had two art assistants, Brian Smee and Isabelle Aspin, manually turning on and off the lights per performer’s faces on vocal cues. For this one, I knew I wanted to bring in Josh White, who is a legend for being a part of the first wave of concert visuals and live broadcasting. Famously known for The Midnight Cowboy trip scene, and doing liquid lights for Woodstock, and Jimi Hendrix at The Fillmore East, to name just a few accolades. Josh is a hilarious and brilliant artist in NYC who still carries the same energy and enthusiasm. His visuals really sealed the ’60s psych look for this fast song.”
