We get so much stuff sent to us, and to be honest most of it goes in one ear and out the other, however good. Jacco Gardner&#8230; White Denim&#8230; Jonathan Wilson&#8230; Temples&#8230; Father John Misty&#8230; and Foxygen (more on them in a minute) have been bands I personally have championed&#8230; and now comes the incredibly intricate music of two teenage New York brothers THE LEMON TWIGS&#8230; who were discovered by Foxygen&#8217;s\u00a0Jonathan Rado. We&#8217;ll feature the band properly very\u00a0soon, but for now here&#8217;s their own biog and new video. Enjoy! I hope you love them as much as me. As toddlers,\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">they<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">were already harmonising on\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u2018<\/span><span class=\"tx\">I Want To Hold\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">Your Hand<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u2019<\/span><span class=\"tx\">,<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">and\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">soon<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">they were<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">p<\/span><span class=\"tx\">laying drums and mastering\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">whatever instruments<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">they could get their\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">hands on<\/span><span class=\"tx\">. Ask<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">about their childhood dreams<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">and they&#8217;ll tell you that they ne<\/span><span class=\"tx\">ver<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">aspired to do anything\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">but\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">make<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">music together<\/span><span class=\"tx\">. I<\/span><span class=\"tx\">t show<\/span><span class=\"tx\">s<\/span><span class=\"tx\">.<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"tx\">\u201cBrian and Michael are<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">two of the best musicians I&#8217;ve ever met,\u201d says<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">Foxygen&#8217;s<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">Jonathan Rado, who\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">discovered the duo\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">via<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">Twitter\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">and produced the\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">new\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">album<\/span><span class=\"tx\">. &#8220;<\/span><span class=\"tx\">As teenagers, t<\/span><span class=\"tx\">hey\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">work<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">like studio vets.\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">Brian can play anything you hand him\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u2013<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">he played all the strings and\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">horns on the record\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u2013<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">and Michael\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">is the most captivating drummer I&#8217;ve ever seen. There&#8217;s nothing they can&#8217;t do.\u201d<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"tx\">Rado proved<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">to be the perfect foil for the wunderkinds, and t<\/span><span class=\"tx\">he resulting album brings together everything\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">from\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">Brian Wilson<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">and\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">David\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">Bowie\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">to Queen and The Association. Their music<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">can soar like a carnival\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">calliope and then swiftly drop\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">down\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">to<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">its knees in<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">the hus<\/span><span class=\"tx\">hed<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">tones of a confessional booth.\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">Their vocals\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">move seamlessly from a cabaret croon to classic la<\/span><span class=\"tx\">&#8211;<\/span><span class=\"tx\">la<\/span><span class=\"tx\">&#8211;<\/span><span class=\"tx\">la harmonies<\/span><span class=\"tx\">. They<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">mine\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">inspiration<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">seemingly\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">from\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">every<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">era of rock, stitching\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">it all tog<\/span><span class=\"tx\">ether into a\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">baroque<\/span><span class=\"tx\">&#8211;<\/span><span class=\"tx\">pop<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">quilt\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">of many colours<\/span><span class=\"tx\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"tx\">It&#8217;s\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">an\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">ambitious<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">approach<\/span><span class=\"tx\">, to say the least, but the album lives up to the hype. They forthcoming album\u00a0<\/span><em><span class=\"tx\">Do Hollywood\u00a0<\/span><\/em><span class=\"tx\">opens,\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">appropriately enough,<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">with\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u2018<\/span><span class=\"tx\">I Wanna Prove T<\/span><span class=\"tx\">o You<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u2019<\/span><span class=\"tx\">,<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">which parades out of the\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">gate<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">like a circus arriving into\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">to town.\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u201cI wanna prove to you what I can do<\/span><span class=\"tx\">,<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u201d<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">Brian sings as he and his brother proceed to do just that.\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">Bouncing<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">piano and\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">dense harmonies give way to shifting time signatures and mind<\/span><span class=\"tx\">&#8211;<\/span><span class=\"tx\">bending arrangements.<\/span><span class=\"tx\">It&#8217;s\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">the perfect introduction to<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">The Lemon Twigs, and to\u00a0<\/span><em><span class=\"tx\">Do Hollywood<\/span><\/em><span class=\"tx\">,<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">which features the\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">brothers\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">alternating<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">writing credits\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">on each track\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">and\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">liberally swapping instruments<\/span><span class=\"tx\">,<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">just as\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">they do in their\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">electrifying live performances<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">(<\/span><span class=\"tx\">they tour with\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">live member<\/span><span class=\"tx\">s<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">Megan Zeankowski on bass and Danny Ayala\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">on keyboards)<\/span><span class=\"tx\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The Lemon Twigs - These Words\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/LncJE2otRVA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"tx\">Lead single\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u2018<\/span><span class=\"tx\">These Words<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u2019<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">builds from a delicate whisper to a<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">rock and roll\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">roar, while\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u2018<\/span><span class=\"tx\">How Lucky Am I?<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u2019\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">tugs at the heartstrings, and\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u2018<\/span><span class=\"tx\">As Long As We&#8217;re Together<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u2019<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">call<\/span><span class=\"tx\">s<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">to mind\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">the\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">memorable<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">melodies of\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">Big Star\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">and T<\/span><span class=\"tx\">&#8211;<\/span><span class=\"tx\">Rex<\/span><span class=\"tx\">. Perhaps no\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">song demonstrates their brotherly democracy<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">better<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">than\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u2018<\/span><span class=\"tx\">Hi<\/span><span class=\"tx\">+Lo<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u2019<\/span><span class=\"tx\">,<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">the track\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">unfolding<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">in movements like something off\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">of <em>Abbey Road\u2019<\/em>s Side B medley<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">with<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">Michael<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">singing and playing\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">guitar, drums<\/span><span class=\"tx\">, and bass, and Brian adding<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">horns and strings<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">to flesh out the orchestral atmosphere<\/span><span class=\"tx\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"tx\">\u201cW<\/span><span class=\"tx\">e were<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">craft<\/span><span class=\"tx\">ing<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">these\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">songs pretty intricately,\u201d Brian says. \u201cThere\u2019s a lot of care in the arrangements.\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">They\u2019re built to get at people who like nice pop songs.\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">But they\u2019re\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">not empty<\/span><span class=\"tx\">. W<\/span><span class=\"tx\">e put a lot of ourselves\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">into it<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">and t<\/span><span class=\"tx\">he album h<\/span><span class=\"tx\">as a lot of substance<\/span><span class=\"tx\">.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">It was that su<\/span><span class=\"tx\">bstance that caught the attention of the iconic 4AD l<\/span><span class=\"tx\">abel and has already earned the band<\/span><span class=\"tx\">dates with other critical darlings like Foxygen and Car Seat Headrest.\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">With high profile tours and their label\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">debut on the horizon, it&#8217;s only a matter of time\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">until<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">the rest of the world\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">discovers Long Island&#8217;s ne<\/span><span class=\"tx\">xt great\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">cultural contribution.\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">G<\/span><span class=\"tx\">et ready to\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">Do Hollywood<\/span><span class=\"tx\">.<\/span><span class=\"tx\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"tx\">It&#8217;s time to meet The Lemon Twigs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Together with friends Megan Zeankowski (bass) and Danny Ayala (keyboards), Brian and Michael will take The Lemon Twigs on the road, and they will play <em>Shindig!<\/em>&#8216;s hometown\u00a0London in a few weeks!
