So when the band approached me about doing something inspired by those JPOP videos that ooze quirkiness and eccentricity, I thought injecting the color palettes and aesthetics of Japan into this idea could be a good fit. It&#8217;s designed to feel like a fever dream you&#8217;d have after spending too much time in a Japanese dollar store\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Following their recent, very special, sold-out show at Oslo in Hackney where they played a number of new tracks, the band have announced another London show at\u00a0The Electric\u00a0in Brixton on\u00a0Thursday 30<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0March 2017.\u00a0Further UK shows will be announced shortly.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Tickets for The Electric show are onsale via\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ticketweb.co.uk\/event\/XUL3003X\"><strong>http:\/\/www.ticketweb.co.uk\/event\/XUL3003X<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0at 10am on Friday 4<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0November 2016.<\/p>\n<p>The band also play a show at\u00a0Point\u00a0Eph\u00e9m\u00e8re\u00a0in Paris on\u00a0Saturday 3<sup>rd<\/sup>\u00a0December\u00a0as part of the Rough Trade 40<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0anniversary weekend.<\/p>\n<p>It doesn\u2019t take too long with\u00a0<em>Volcano\u00a0<\/em>to realise that, while all the things that made the band special the first time around remain intact, a noticeable evolution has taken place. It\u2019s there from the outset: the beefed-up beats of &#8216;Certainty&#8217;\u00a0reveal an expanded sonic firmament, one in which bright synth hooks and insistent choruses circle around each other over chord sequences that strike just the right balance between nice and queasy. \u201cIf there\u2019s a sense of scale,\u201d says lead singer James Bagshaw, \u201cIt was really just a result of implementing a load of things that we didn\u2019t know about the first time around.\u201d Co-founding member and bassist Thomas Walmsley describes a record in which \u201cwe discovered a lot as we went along, and the excitement at having done so radiates.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>One thing you do notice is that it\u2019s harder to spot the influences this time around. It would be disingenuous to evade the psych-pop tag, for sure, but mystical language has been supplanted by something a more direct \u2013 and while those influences are still there, it\u2019s no longer possible to pick them out. They\u2019ve been broken down and blended together \u2013 fossilised into a single source of creative fuel, so that what you can hear this time around, sounds like nothing so much as Temples. This is the sound of a band squaring up to their potential.<\/p>\n<p>Temples released their debut album,\u00a0<em>Sun Structures<\/em>,\u00a0in February 2014.
