{"id":2807,"date":"2019-06-06T00:07:02","date_gmt":"2019-06-05T23:07:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shindig-magazine.com\/?p=2807"},"modified":"2019-06-06T07:35:56","modified_gmt":"2019-06-06T06:35:56","slug":"temples-hot-motion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shindig-magazine.com\/?p=2807","title":{"rendered":"Temples \u2018Hot Motion\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>TEMPLES\u2019 third album, <em>Hot Motion <\/em>will be released on ATO Records on Friday 27<sup>th<\/sup> September. \u00a0The title track \u2018Hot Motion\u2019 is a song about \u201cthe tensions of desire, dreams and nightmares\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Temples - Hot Motion (Official Music Video)\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/EpzCM3ozg-8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Renowned for their mesmerising live performances and having just played a stunning set at this year\u2019s All Points East Festival, Temples have also announced a UK and European headline tour in the early winter, a number of festival shows over the summer and an extensive US tour in the autumn.<\/p>\n<p><em>Hot Motion <\/em>follows acclaimed albums <em>Sun Structures<\/em> (2014) and\u00a0<em>Volcano <\/em><em>(<\/em>2017). First bursting onto the music scene with the single \u2018Shelter Song\u2019 in 2012, Temples immediately found an ardent audience around the globe. In the US they graced the stages of <em>The Tonight Show<\/em> and<em> Ellen <\/em>while music critics lauded their shimmering, rhapsodic take on psychedelia.<\/p>\n<p>With their third, brilliantly crafted and ingeniously intricate, album Temples have found new ground and a deeper, darker creative well.\u00a0 A glorious technicolour infuses much of the album but there is a David Lynch-ian undertone that adds a gravity to <em>Hot Motion<\/em>\u2019s soaring moments. \u201cIt felt like there was a darker edge to what we were coming up with and we wanted to make sure that carried through across the whole record,\u201d said bassist Thomas Walmsley. \u201cIt\u2019s not a 10-track, relentless rock record from start to finish, it\u2019s got a lot of light and shade and more tender moments, but that heavier, darker sound for us is something we wanted to make sure was in there and explore further.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fizzing with ideas, bursting with kinetic energy and balancing an immediate impact with an enduring, timeless intensity, <em>Hot Motion <\/em>is a cohesive album in a time of stand alone singles. Temples have created an aural tapestry for dark days; an inviting and warm sanctuary away from the daily churn of information overload. It\u2019s an album of complexity, crafted for repeat listening.<\/p>\n<p>Setting up the recording in an outbuilding of lead-singer James Bagshaw\u2019s house in the midlands of England, the space proved a factor in the gestation of the record. \u201cWe\u2019ve gone from bedroom to living room to a dedicated space. We could all set up in the same room and allow things to play out a lot more like a band. That played a huge part in the sound of the record,\u201d said Walmsley.<\/p>\n<p>Lyrically too, this record has seen Temples embrace \u201cpurer, primal\u201d feelings. \u201cI\u2019m really proud of \u2018You\u2019re Either On Something\u2019\u00a0lyrically,\u201d admitted Bagshaw. \u201cOn that track, I can hear influences of stuff that I listened to when I was growing up. There\u2019s almost a nostalgia to that track, even though it\u2019s very forward-looking. Equally, while the words on [album closer] \u2018Monuments\u2019\u00a0are a little cryptic It\u2019s very much about the time we live in.
