Interviewing people is something we have to\u00a0do weekly. Usually an iPhone would ably dothe job for a pub or caf\u00e9 set-up, but often it\u00a0was problematic with background noise and\u00a0the limited reach of the mic. The\u00a0first Shindig! <\/i>Broadcast featured a\u00a0pre-recorded interview with Faris\u00a0Badwan of The Horrors\/Cat\u2019s Eyesmade this way. Although\u00a0acceptable for broadcast I do wish\u00a0that this wind-beaten segment of\u00a0audio had been undertaken with an\u00a0Olympus LS-P4.<\/p>\n

Since obtaining the said little\u00a0black recorder (15cm tall by 1.8cm\u00a0thick) the results have been\u00a0incredible. Although resembling a\u00a0dicataphone this machine records in\u00a0stunning radio play Linear quality,\u00a0incorporating a TRESMIC, 3-microphone system. Since having\u00a0interviewed Ray Davies of The\u00a0Kinks, Jonathan Rado and Sam\u00a0France of Foxygen and The\u00a0Flaming Lips\u2019 Wayne Coyne, we\u00a0have been stunned with the results.<\/p>\n

Everything is broadcast quality. For those who may want to record gigs the LS-P4 can hook up with headphones (both wired and\u00a0Bluetooth) to allow real-time monitoring of\u00a0the output. This is something we will try\u00a0down the line, and I\u2019m sure we\u2019ll\u00a0want to air the results on Soho\u00a0Radio. Uploading the high def\u00a0file to your Mac or PC is easy\u00a0too as a USB pops down from\u00a0the base. Long files do take a few\u00a0minutes to transfer due to their\u00a0size, but the quality is\u00a0outstanding.<\/p>\n

Getting guests into the\u00a0Soho Radio show (The Shindig!<\/i>\u00a0Broadcast) has been easy so far,\u00a0but I am so confident of the\u00a0Olympus LS-P4\u2019s capabilities\u00a0that I am now keen to try out\u00a0some post-gig recordings, field\u00a0recordings and more. For a\u00a0magazine like ours, Olympus has\u00a0provided a solution to all our\u00a0needs.<\/p>\n
