GBV!<\/em> They\u2019re either madmen or prophets. The 4-track wizardry and covert melodic genius of <em>Propeller<\/em> seem to suggest the latter\u2026or maybe both. Timeless anthems (\u2018I Am a Scientist\u2019), quintessential GBV quirks (\u2018Gold Star for Robot Boy\u2019) and even Polythene Pam\u2019s lunatic Christmas sequel (\u2018Kicker of Elves\u2019). As the art of collage demands, it\u2019s more than the sum of its parts. Nevertheless, it features lo-fi treasures that proudly stand on their own (\u2018Game of Pricks\u2019 and \u2018Motor Away\u2019, just to name two). A\u00a0 complex jewel that showcases one of the finest moments of Dayton rock: Pollard commits some of his most timeless compositions to tape (and so does Sprout), with Kim Deal producing the best cuts. Enter Doug Gillard, the band\u2019s key guitar wizard for the years to come (he also pens the monumental \u2018I Am A Tree\u2019). Bob leads the regenerated GBV to power pop glory, unearthing new anthems along the way (\u2019Bulldog Skin\u2019, \u2019Jane of the Waking Universe\u2019).
