Here&#8217;s what he came up with&#8221; <\/i>explains Dominic Thomas, <strong>Whyte Horses&#8217;<\/strong> main man and founder of vinyl reissue label Finders Keepers.<\/p>\n<p>Choosing to cover such a classic track epitomises <strong>Whyte Horses<\/strong>, whose sound is at once timeless and thoroughly modern. Bringing together covers as diverse as the Bee Gee\u2019s \u2018Mr. Natural\u2019 to Nancy Sinatra\u2019s \u2018Bang Bang\u2019 and Plastic Bertrand\u2019s \u2018Ca Plane Pour Moi\u2019, <strong>Whyte Horses<\/strong> have brought in an esteemed list of vocal collaborators such as John Grant, Badly Drawn Boy, La Roux and Gruff Rhys. \u201cI think it\u2019s important to test yourself a bit because it\u2019s quite easy to get into a routine and sit back and develop a sound that&#8217;s stale. I\u2019m always very wary of that,\u201d Dom says of wanting to try something different with <em>Hard Times<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Keeping up with the \u201cshuffle-culture\u201d habits of listeners has also impacted <em>Hard Times<\/em>&#8216; feel, Dom believes. \u201cWe live in a very disposable time where ears need to be stimulated constantly. I try to make a perfect record of its time, a perfect song in its own right so when flicking to and from, each song stands out in its own right. If as a musician I\u2019m making songs all of the same variety, then I\u2019m not doing my duty as a songwriter. That\u2019s far too safe. I came from a DJ background and I always found putting records together against each other infinitely more interesting than just playing my favourite records.
