They called themselves The Ophelias, and over three years released three overlooked LPs of unpredictable, ambitious and kaleidoscopic psychedelic rock that wore its obsession with the likes of The Kinks and Van der Graaf Generator on its sleeve. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"Default\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Every now and then you<\/span><span dir=\"RTL\" lang=\"AR-SA\">\u2019<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">ll hear someone say The Ophelias were the finest \u201980s band you<\/span><span dir=\"RTL\" lang=\"AR-SA\">\u2019<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">ve never heard of. Trust them and start digging:<\/span> <i><span lang=\"IT\">Bare Bodkin<\/span><\/i><span lang=\"EN-US\">, a comprehensive retrospective released last year on Independent Project Records, is a good place to start. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"Default\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">The story of The Ophelias was short and characterised by frequent line-up changes, the one constant being Leslie Medford, the band<\/span><span dir=\"RTL\" lang=\"AR-SA\">\u2019<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">s lynchpin with a love of Shakespeare and out-of-time music. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"Default\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Now hit fast forward: after long years of musical retirement, Leslie Medford re-emerges from the green of California. He<\/span><span dir=\"RTL\" lang=\"AR-SA\">\u2019<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">s found his Muse again. He presents <\/span><span dir=\"RTL\" lang=\"AR-SA\">\u2018<\/span><span lang=\"DE\">Leslie<\/span><span dir=\"RTL\" lang=\"AR-SA\">\u2019<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">s Dream<\/span><span dir=\"RTL\" lang=\"AR-SA\">\u2019<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">, a dark psychedelic reverie <\/span><span lang=\"IT\">propelled by<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\"> a motorik heartbeat and the kind of political rage that addresses past, present and future all at once.
