{"id":6220,"date":"2023-09-09T14:24:03","date_gmt":"2023-09-09T13:24:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.shindig-magazine.com\/?p=6220"},"modified":"2023-09-09T14:24:37","modified_gmt":"2023-09-09T13:24:37","slug":"say-she-she-online-exclusive-groovy-communion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shindig-magazine.com\/?p=6220","title":{"rendered":"Say She She &#8211; Online Exclusive &#8211; Groovy Communion"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"Body\"><strong>Following on from her article in issue #143 (buy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.silverbackpublishing.rocks\/product\/shindig-143\/\">here<\/a>) CAMILLA AISA talks further with Brooklyn trio SAY SHE SHE<\/strong><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6221\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shindig-magazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Screenshot-2023-09-09-at-13.03.36.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"850\" height=\"530\" srcset=\"https:\/\/shindig-magazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Screenshot-2023-09-09-at-13.03.36.png 850w, https:\/\/shindig-magazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Screenshot-2023-09-09-at-13.03.36-300x187.png 300w, https:\/\/shindig-magazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Screenshot-2023-09-09-at-13.03.36-768x479.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Body\"><span lang=\"IT\">\u201cThat\u2019s <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">the greatest gift you can give to somebody<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">, <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">making them appreciate a song or listen to something that they would never have gone to look for<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">\u201d, says Piya Malik, one third of Say She She, a group brought together by shared favourites as much as the music they wouldn\u2019t have discovered without one another. <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">Sabrina Mileo Cunningham <\/span><span lang=\"IT\">points to Rotary Connection as a source of inspiration she plunged into thanks to her bandmates, Malik and <\/span><span lang=\"NL\">Nya Gazelle Brown<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">: \u201cThere\u2019s <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">the psychedelic elements, the group singing, the harmonies and that untraditional songwriting style<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">\u2026it resonated so much.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Rotary Connection, featuring Minnie Riperton\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/i1tZtL6oz44?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"Body\"><span lang=\"IT\">What the trio makes is electric music<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\"> for the mind<\/span><span lang=\"IT\"> and body<\/span>, <span lang=\"IT\">the <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">soul and <\/span><span lang=\"IT\">the <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">dancefloor alike.<\/span><span lang=\"IT\"> Think of it, you couldn\u2019t ask for a better encapsulation of the current generational shift in listening habits: genres and styles \u2013 especially ones historically kept at a distance from each other \u2013 coalesce, decades connect, and equal space is made for the highbrow and the catchy, the niche and the popular. \u201cT<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">he way that we listen to music with streaming and the advent of all these different platforms<\/span><span lang=\"IT\"> (as well as<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\"> people&#8217;s short attention span<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">) <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">is that we have access to so much more,<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">\u201d says Malik . \u201cG<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">rowing up <\/span><span lang=\"IT\">I <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">would buy one CD or one tape<\/span> <span lang=\"EN-US\">and listen to it over and over<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">. <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">I used to sit in my bedroom and rewind the tapes before I went to bed<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">, m<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">aking sure they<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">\u2019d be<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\"> ready in the morning for me to listen to fresh. <\/span><span lang=\"IT\">T<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">he listening experience<\/span> <span lang=\"EN-US\">was very focused and concentrated<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">. N<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">ow we have access to so much music <\/span><span lang=\"IT\">from <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">around the world, and people are putting out much more music. <\/span><span lang=\"IT\">M<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">usic creation is easier in some ways<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">\u201d. Brown agrees: \u201c<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">In the past record labels had much more of the control, the big wigs were curating the whole music scene. Now I think that with indie labels taking chances with bands like us and other types of musicians that tend to express themselves in different ways we&#8217;re not thinking about money as the driver. Of course we&#8217;d love to make money,<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">\u201d<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">\u00a0she laughs,<\/span> <span lang=\"IT\">\u201c<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">but that&#8217;s not a driver. It&#8217;s the love of music.<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">\u201d Say She She have brought their all-embracing listening habits into the studio. \u201cT<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">he way that we record is a reflection of the kinds of music that we like to listen to<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">, which is<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\"> lots of different things<\/span> <span lang=\"EN-US\">but<\/span><span lang=\"IT\"> most importantly <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">late \u2019<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">70s<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\"> stuff,<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">\u201d Malik points out. \u201c<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">We <\/span><span lang=\"IT\">always <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">record live to tape. It&#8217;s the way that we write best as well<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">: <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">with the live band, with the energy of everybody in the room.<\/span> <span lang=\"EN-US\">Every single person in our band is a songwriter and we couldn&#8217;t do it without that communitarian feel<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">. S<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">ometimes an idea might be birthed by one person, but it<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">\u2019s<\/span> <span lang=\"IT\">n<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">ever finished without everybody involved<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">\u201d. Say She She\u2019s experienced backing band is made of members of acclaimed soul-funk outfit Orgone, with co-founder (and owner of North Hollywood\u2019s Killionsound studio) Sergio Rios acting as producer. Rios and <\/span><span lang=\"ES-TRAD\">Dan Hastie<\/span><span lang=\"IT\"> have been playing together since their high school days: it\u2019s a musical brotherhood that Say She She find perfectly fitting with their strong sense of sisterhood. \u201cI<\/span>t<span dir=\"RTL\" lang=\"AR-SA\">\u2019<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">s like a marriage of people who are already families,<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">\u201d they enthuse. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Say She She - Astral Plane [OFFICIAL VIDEO]\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/394ERRGaCe8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"Body\"><span lang=\"IT\">At the core of Say She She\u2019s genre-defying sound is a love of disco that is proudly unabashed and utterly inspired. In spite of what rock-loving machismo might have asserted back in the day, nowadays it is safe to say that disco never sucked. In fact, Say She She are noticing a revival. \u201cMaybe <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">it was happening before the pandemic to some extent,<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">\u201d Malik considers,<\/span> <span lang=\"IT\">\u201c<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">but I think that after the pandemic there&#8217;s definitely been a resurgence of people wanting to just get up and get out on the dance floor. <\/span><span lang=\"IT\">D<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">isco culture means a lot of different things<\/span> <span lang=\"EN-US\">to people. But for us<\/span><span lang=\"IT\"> i<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">t reflects a New York disco mentality, which is grounded in loft parties<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">, a<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\"> culture where everyone&#8217;s from everywhere and we&#8217;re just united <\/span><span lang=\"IT\">by<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\"> the dancefloor<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">. <\/span><span lang=\"IT\">\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">I<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">t&#8217;s <\/span><span lang=\"IT\">a pure-<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">hearted celebration of music. <\/span><span lang=\"IT\">A<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">fter being confined <\/span><span lang=\"IT\">for <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">so long I think that&#8217;s definitely what people want now, to be out there and celebrate<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">\u201d. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"Body\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6222\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shindig-magazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/ScreenShot2023-07-24at1.40.20PM_1024x.png.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"680\" srcset=\"https:\/\/shindig-magazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/ScreenShot2023-07-24at1.40.20PM_1024x.png.webp 1024w, https:\/\/shindig-magazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/ScreenShot2023-07-24at1.40.20PM_1024x.png-300x199.webp 300w, https:\/\/shindig-magazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/ScreenShot2023-07-24at1.40.20PM_1024x.png-768x510.webp 768w, https:\/\/shindig-magazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/ScreenShot2023-07-24at1.40.20PM_1024x.png-730x485.webp 730w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"Body\"><i><span lang=\"IT\">Silver<\/span><\/i><span lang=\"IT\">, Say She She\u2019s new album, blurs the boundaries between <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">platform-booted<\/span><span lang=\"IT\"> jubilation and political commitment. Take a single like \u2018Norma\u2019, for instance, equal parts discodelic belter and rousing protest song. The band wrote it in the studio, in one go, after hearing the devastating news of the Supreme Court\u2019s overturn of Roe v. Wade. \u201cT<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">he leaks were announced,<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">\u201d Malik recalls. \u201c<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">I remember<\/span><span lang=\"IT\"> that we were <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">in tears<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">. It<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\"> just felt like there was no other song that we could write.<\/span> <span lang=\"EN-US\">It fell out of us. Sabrina said, <\/span><span lang=\"IT\">&#8216;W<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">e will not go back<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">\u2019 <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">and then it just grew from there<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">, we <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">penned the lyrics <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">very quickly. <\/span><span lang=\"IT\">S<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">ometimes we feel guilty about saying <\/span><span lang=\"IT\">that <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">we wrote <\/span><span lang=\"IT\">it, because <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">it feels like a song that was<\/span><span lang=\"IT\"> t<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">here for everyone, and it&#8217;s not ours.<\/span><span lang=\"IT\"> W<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">e were just the vessel.<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">\u201d Say She She realised that it was time to bring action \u2013 as well as their own background in political campaigning \u2013 into music. \u201c<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">I think <\/span><span lang=\"IT\">that sometimes <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">the best things <\/span><span lang=\"IT\">are<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\"> the most simple<\/span><span lang=\"IT\"> ones<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\"> that c<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">o<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">me out of a visceral emotion,<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">\u201d Malik considers. \u201cW<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">e neve<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">r<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\"> ever imagined<\/span><span lang=\"IT\"> that t<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">he right and the access to abortion would be taken away from us. We thought that our parents had lived through that so that we would never have to. <\/span><span lang=\"IT\">T<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">o see things revert is <\/span><span lang=\"IT\">truly scary,<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\"> and I feel extremely worried <\/span><span lang=\"IT\">and <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">sad for younger<\/span><span lang=\"IT\"> w<\/span>omen<span lang=\"IT\"> in their teens or 20s<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\"> who don&#8217;t feel protected and don&#8217;t know what the future holds<\/span> <span lang=\"EN-US\">for them.<\/span><span lang=\"IT\"> W<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">riting<\/span><span lang=\"IT\"> \u2018Norma\u2019<\/span> <span lang=\"IT\">was<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\"> as much for ourselves as it <\/span><span lang=\"IT\">was<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\"> for them. <\/span><span lang=\"IT\">T<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">o make a statement. <\/span><span lang=\"IT\">I<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">t felt like the right time for us to use our voice in ways that <\/span><span lang=\"IT\">could<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\"> reach people. <\/span><span lang=\"IT\">That song <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">was<\/span> <span lang=\"EN-US\">the starting point for us<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">, <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">it was always in our heart to do that.<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">\u201d <i>Silver <\/i>doesn\u2019t shy away from applying fine grooves to strong calls to action, whether it\u2019s instinctively responding to current affairs or reclaiming a long tradition of politically engaged art. <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">Cunningham<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">\u2019s closeness to one of the founding members of the Guerrilla Girls proved particularly inspirational. As it is customary for the feminist contemporary art group, she remains anonymous but goes by the name of Alice Neel.\u00a0 \u201cShe\u2019s <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">a really inspiring woman who <\/span><span lang=\"IT\">had <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">a very<\/span><span lang=\"IT\"> i<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">nteresting experience as an artist coming up in the New York <\/span><span lang=\"IT\">art <\/span><span lang=\"DA\">scene<\/span><span lang=\"IT\"> of the \u201980s,\u201d <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">Cunningham<\/span><span lang=\"IT\"> says<\/span>. <span lang=\"IT\">\u201cS<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">he taught us a lot about fact-based campaigning.<\/span> <span lang=\"EN-US\">She told us all these really cool stories about how they came together and how they were expressing themselves<\/span><span lang=\"IT\"> &#8211; i<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">t was very inspiring <\/span><span lang=\"IT\">to see <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">how they were standing up <\/span><span lang=\"IT\">to <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">the biases<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">, <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">the<\/span><span lang=\"IT\"> d<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">iscrimination happening in the art world<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">, and the<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\"> lack of representation<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">\u201d. The video Say She She filmed for single \u2018Forget Me Not\u2019 plays like an homage to the topicality of the Guerrilla Girls, who in 1988 included \u201cb<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">eing reassured that whatever kind of art you make it will be labeled feminine<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">\u201d in their listing of <\/span><i><span lang=\"EN-US\">The Advantages Of Being A Woman Artist<\/span><\/i><span lang=\"IT\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Body\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/2V6MbhNd1_Q?si=NPcupDA0yR8Mxq2d\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"Body\"><span lang=\"IT\">It was thanks to fortuitous New York connections that the members of Say She She found each other (\u201c<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">I always say that New York is the biggest smallest town I&#8217;ve ever lived in<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">\u201d quips Malik, who grew up in London). Up to that point both their musical and life experiences had been remarkably different, with the notable exception of being invariably typecast. \u201cA<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">ctually, we <\/span><span lang=\"IT\">all <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">sang classical music<\/span><span lang=\"IT\"> growing up\u201d, Malik considers<\/span>. <span lang=\"IT\">\u201cAn Indian girl singing arias\u2026 you\u2019re going to get some <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">funny looks from your friend<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">s\u2019<\/span> parents. <span lang=\"EN-US\">But never<\/span> mind<span lang=\"IT\">:<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\"> you win the competition and they soon shut up.<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">\u201d In some ways, the trio\u2019s musical voraciousness is a perfect form of retaliation. It is also a signpost of a meaningful real-life bond. \u201cWe\u2019ve all been in groups before, but there\u2019s a certain chemistry with the three of us,\u201d <\/span>Brown<span lang=\"IT\"> enthuses. \u201c<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">I love their voices so much<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">: t<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">hey<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">\u2019<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">re such strong, amazing, beautiful singers<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">, and I can <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">admire them, <\/span><span lang=\"IT\">or<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\"> blend with them, <\/span><span lang=\"IT\">or<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\"> support them. <\/span><span lang=\"IT\">W<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">e&#8217;ve also got this band behind us that is so amazing and so supportive<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">, <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">each individual bringing so much talent and musicality to the stage<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">. I feel so grateful and excited<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\"> to co-create with them on stage, in the moment. <\/span><span lang=\"IT\">Malik concurs, \u201c<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">I think <\/span><span lang=\"IT\">that <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">our friendship <\/span><span lang=\"IT\">and <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">our ability to talk and communicate <\/span><span lang=\"IT\">sometimes acts as <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">a catalyst for understanding things<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">. Whether we\u2019re explaining ourselves <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">as best friends in <\/span><span lang=\"IT\">our<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">safe space<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">,<\/span> <span lang=\"IT\">or writing <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">lyrics <\/span><span lang=\"IT\">and having discussions <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">about the songs<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">, we\u2019re learning all the time. I<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">t&#8217;s powerful that we have each other in <\/span><span lang=\"IT\">our <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">lives<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">\u201d. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Say She She - C&#039;est Si Bon [OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO]\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/z8aOFHjoJsU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"Body\"><span lang=\"IT\">Some might expect to see such powerful vocalists in competition to take the lead; but when Say She She are in the studio you\u2019re more likely to hear a deluge of \u201cYou take this\u201d, \u201cNo, <i>you<\/i> take this.\u201d \u201cW<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">e all cherish what each one brings to the table,<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">\u201d <\/span><span lang=\"IT\">\u00a0states <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">Cunningham<\/span>. <span lang=\"IT\">\u201c<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">Even in the writing session<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">s<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">, we embrace each other&#8217;s differences, support each other.<\/span><span lang=\"IT\"> W<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">e always want what&#8217;s best for the song, so we let each other<\/span><span lang=\"IT\"> e<\/span><span lang=\"PT\">xperiment. <\/span><span lang=\"IT\">It\u2019s all very collaborative, and just joyous.\u201d Confidence and mutual respect are as crucial as a shared musical vocabulary, they assert. &#8220;<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">I&#8217;ve been in songwriting sessions in the past where<\/span><span lang=\"IT\"> people would<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\"> just shut you down and say<\/span> <span lang=\"EN-US\">no, that&#8217;s not a good idea,<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">\u201d Malik reflects in hindsight. \u201cWhereas w<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">e always have a thing of saying, if you don&#8217;t think it&#8217;s right for the song then don&#8217;t just say &#8220;N<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">o,&#8221; come up with another thing to replace it. <\/span><span lang=\"IT\">T<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">hat has been such a wonderful change in my life<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">,<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\"> to be around <\/span><span lang=\"IT\">that kind of <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">positivity<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">. Sometimes people will tell us that their favourite part in a song is a change that came out left-field. That, too, comes from being really accepting of each other: when one of us comes up with one of these surprises that happen out of nowhere, instead of saying that it doesn\u2019t go in the song we\u2019ll ask ourselves what steps do we need to take to make it fit the song. T<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">hat&#8217;s been really fun with this project. <\/span><span lang=\"IT\">I<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">t means you write faster<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">,<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\"> too, <\/span><span lang=\"IT\">be<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">cause you&#8217;re accepting all the<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">se<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\"> ideas and finding <\/span><span lang=\"IT\">a<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\"> nice thread to put together<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">\u201d. Two full-length albums and a fine selection of singles in just two years seem to be ultimate proof of exactly that. \u201cThat\u2019s what <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">makes us genreless,<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">\u201d adds <\/span>Brown<span lang=\"IT\">. \u201cW<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">e&#8217;re allowing<\/span><span lang=\"IT\"> all t<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">hese <\/span><span lang=\"IT\">different <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">things to appear in the song<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">. It\u2019s like a safe space: suggestions come about, we\u2019re accepting and loving, we find the freedom.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"Body\"><span lang=\"IT\">Say She She are in their tour van, moving across the States. Don\u2019t expect the usual uncommunicative-fatigue-from-playing-every-night <\/span><span lang=\"DE\">schtick<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">. They can\u2019t stop raving about writing and singing songs with one another. \u201c<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">Sorry<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">, w<\/span>e<span lang=\"IT\">\u2019<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">re having a love fest,<\/span><span lang=\"IT\">\u201d they remark at one point. But that is exactly what music \u00a0\u2013 and the world at large \u2013 needs more of.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large
