This coincided with the wonderful film director Robert Schwartzman showing an interest in creating a documentary on The Zombies.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Shindig!<\/strong>: Were there stories that you felt needed to be told that hadn\u2019t been told before?<\/p>\n<p><strong>CB<\/strong>: I think it was more a matter of telling our stories in some kind of order\u2026 of giving a complete picture of the many peaks and troughs of <strong>The Zombies<\/strong>&#8216; mysterious career.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Shindig!<\/strong>: Were there things that you only remembered whilst working on <em>Hung Up On A Dream<\/em>?<\/p>\n<p><strong>CB<\/strong>: I\u2019m always intrigued when I hear the other members of <strong>The Zombies<\/strong>&#8216; recollections of long ago and far away, as we all remember everything so differently. Invariably, they will remind me of episodes I had forgotten long ago, and sometimes they even remind me of adventures I\u2019m fairly sure never happened in the first place!!!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Shindig!<\/strong>: Do you think <strong>The Zombies<\/strong> were underappreciated in Britain?<\/p>\n<p><strong>CB<\/strong>: We were certainly appreciated far more in other countries around the world.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Shindig!<\/strong>: How was working with Robert Schwartzman?<\/p>\n<p><strong>CB<\/strong>: Working with Robert was inspirational!! He\u2019s quietly professional, setting everyone at ease while encouraging them to explore deep into their memories for details and feelings of another world when we were young and felt everything was possible. Personally, I felt completely relaxed and never doubted for a moment that he would produce a fascinating and compelling account of our journey through the &#8220;wonders&#8221; of a lifetime&#8217;s career in the music industry!!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Shindig!<\/strong>: Why is now the right time to tell <strong>The Zombies<\/strong> story?<\/p>\n<p><strong>CB<\/strong>: I\u2019m afraid to say we\u2019re rather getting into \u201cNow or Never Territory\u201d!!!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Shindig!<\/strong>: Do you think <strong>The Zombies<\/strong> were treated unfairly in the music press at the time of <em>Odessey &amp; Oracle<\/em>?<\/p>\n<p><strong>CB<\/strong>: Apart from a wonderful review by Penny Valentine in Disc magazine and incredible support from the unique and brilliant DJ Kenny Everett, the music press seemed to completely ignore <em>Odessey and Oracle<\/em>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_6268\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6268\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-6268 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shindig-magazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/The-Zombies-OO-Review-Disc-May-11-1968.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"906\" srcset=\"https:\/\/shindig-magazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/The-Zombies-OO-Review-Disc-May-11-1968.png 600w, https:\/\/shindig-magazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/The-Zombies-OO-Review-Disc-May-11-1968-199x300.png 199w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6268\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Penny Valentine in Disc 11th May 1968<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Shindig!<\/strong>: What is your favourite moment from the film?<\/p>\n<p><strong>CB<\/strong>: Watching the band\u2019s career over so many years was quite an emotional experience. I was completely surprised by the amount of old film Robert was able to source. It was very interesting on so many levels to watch five young boys looking to find a way ahead in the madness of the &#8217;60s and then realizing those five young boys were us.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Shindig!<\/strong>: What do you feel is the crowning moment for <strong>The Zombies<\/strong>? Was there a particular time where you thought things couldn\u2019t get any better for the band?<\/p>\n<p><strong>CB<\/strong>: I think the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony was a particularly magical moment. Seventeen thousand people filling The Barclay Centre in Brooklyn, the brilliant induction speech by Susanna Hoffs, the rapturous reaction to our 4-song set, and joining everyone on stage at the end of the ceremony for a rousing rendition of <em>All The Young Dudes<\/em>.
