But something&#8217;s eating all three brothers as they adjust to the sinister \u201970s. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>MARTIN RUDDOCK charts their course from <em>Trafalgar<\/em> to an uncertain future in America<\/strong><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>To Whom It May Concern<\/em>, released in Autumn 1972 was a conscious farewell to IBC Studios, to long-time arranger Bill Shepherd, and to the \u201cold\u201d Bee Gees. <em>To Whom<\/em> rounded up <em>Trafalgar<\/em> out-takes (\u2018We Lost The Road\u2019, Mo\u2019s sweet Mellotron-infused \u2018You Know It\u2019s For You\u2019) and remade\u201968 era tune \u2018Sea Of Smiling Faces\u2019, while Barry revived \u2018I Can Bring Love\u2019 from his fan club 45. Even <em>Odessa<\/em> out-take \u2018Nobody\u2019s Someone\u2019, mixed for the occasion, almost made the cut. There are two towering ballads, \u2018Run To Me\u2019 and \u2018Alive\u2019, while Robin brought the knowing, harpsichord-led waltz \u2018I Held A Party\u2019 (\u201cMaybe I had an excess of my drink\u201d). \u2018Bad Bad Dreams\u2019 let Alan Kendall loose on a fuzzy chugging rocker. Being The Bee Gees, it naturally got weird. \u2018Papier Mache, Cabbages And Kings\u2019 was gleefully manic, ending on a cartoon chant of \u201cJimmy had a bomb and the bomb went bang \/ Jimmy was everywhere,\u201d while the bizarre \u2018Sweet Song Of Summer\u2019 combined Gregorian chant, sinister wordless ad-libs from Barry and Robin and a berserk, blaring Moog played by Mo.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"To Whom It May Concern (1972) Complete\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/videoseries?list=PLhFgXyc3nmg19jgkVG8gJRRU0Fddp2C46\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The album\u2019s sleeve looked like a budget compilation with its generic live shots of the Gibbs (including a soused-looking Mo). A sepia \u201963 shot of the teenage brothers was on the back, the inner gatefold had them as cartoon pop-ups with their family and entourage forming an orchestra behind them. \u2018Run To Me\u2019 finally gave them another UK Top 10 hit, but money was running out, and most of the Gibb clan, including parents Hugh and Barbara and teenage Andy moved back to their old stomping ground of Douglas on The Isle Of Man that summer. \u201cIt was real rough,\u201d said Mo, who\u2019d separated from Lulu. \u201cIt was bloody cold. Mind you, the fish &amp; chips shop was good.\u201d Only Robin stayed on the mainland. In their haste to leave London, \u2018Run To Me\u2019 was inexplicably briefly pulled from the album, then reinstated at the last minute.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stigwood made yet another attempt to launch a Bee Gees movie that summer. Spoof horror flick <em>Castle X<\/em> was set to commence filming in mid-September but was quickly pulled \u2013 mainly because the Gibbs were already frantically recording new album <em>Life In A Tin Can<\/em> at The Record Plant in Los Angeles with veteran arranger Johnny Pate.
