It was a difficult time. We weren&#8217;t really a group, we were just songwriters,\u201d continues Anthony Phillips. But just as with their formative first demo, Anthony and Mike again took the lead and decided to go professional. Banks and Gabriel held back \u2014 first Banks was going to leave and Gabriel persuaded him to stay; then Gabriel was going to leave, and Banks had to persuade him to stay. In the end, only their drummer John Sliver left and when he got replaced by John Mayhew that autumn, Genesis became a proper band.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"From Genesis To Revelation (Deluxe Editions) [Trailer]\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/oLixcr4wPrU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"BodyA\">That\u2019s not to say they weren\u2019t songwriters, on the contrary. \u201cMike and I had started experimenting with this \u2018two 12-string guitar stuff\u2019,\u201d says Anthony. \u201cIt was during 1968 into \u201969, running up to when <i>From Genesis To Revelation<\/i> came out, and then that lost summer, that we were feverishly trying all the stuff, which was setting up some of the bedrock that created things like \u2018Dusk\u2019, \u2018White Mountain\u2019 and \u2018Stagnation\u2019. In fact, we held quite a lot back from playing to the others back at the time, because we wanted to do our own thing at one stage.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"BodyA\">Much of the material was quite ambitious. \u201cWe had a piece called \u2018The Movement\u2019,\u201d says Anthony. Allegedly it contained sections of \u2018Stagnation\u2019, \u2018Foxtrot\u2019 and \u2018Get \u2019em Out By Friday\u2019. There was also a more ambitious version of \u2018A Place To Call My Own\u2019, referred to as the \u2018Epic\u2019 and other forward pointing tracks, such as \u2018Going Out To Get You\u2019.
